Like practically anywhere in the world nowadays, large shopping malls are the prime destinations for shopping and dining and Cebu City is no exception, although the more traditional markets are still thriving in Cebu

Modern and air conditioned Super Malls offer a very attractive option in Cebu, because of it’s tropical climate, for a more traditional and down-to-earth option, markets are also extremely popular in Cebu, whether they sell fresh produce, t-shirts and accessories

Public and Wet Market in Cebu, Philippines

There are main wet and dry public markets almost everywhere in Cebu, in addition to smaller local public markets in nearly all Brgy (village or community), Cebu City’s 3 main wholesale market’s are Carbon Market, Taboan Public Market and Pasil Fish Market, and including Tabunok Public Market in neighbouring Talisay City, not to be confused with Taboan Public Market in Cebu City.  Carcar City Public Market, while transiting south is a natural stop-off point to pick up supplies for a beach BBQ or weekend stay, Carcar City Public Market is best known for it’s Lechon and equally famous for it’s surrounding Chicharron sellers of crispy seasoned pork rind and banana chips, along the same route towards Carcar City roadside and store vendors sell Buko-Coconut Pie and Cassava Cake

Main Wet and Public Markets in Cebu, Philippines may operate 24 hours daily, while markets in local Cebu Brgy (village or community), open early and close late.  Pasil Fish Market is the main landing and distribution of seafood for Cebu City and Central Visayas, local and wholesale fish vendors are based here also, the general public and small reseller business shop here for seafood, because the prices are lower and more competitive.  Local people in Cebu, Philippines collect ingredients to prepare meals, and they prefer to shop at public or wet markets, because the variety of meat, fresh and dried fish vegetables, fresh and dried fruits, eggs, cooking oil, dried, baking product, live stock and household items are considerably cheaper than supermarkets, nearly all items are sold by or per kilo, some items are individually priced.  The buzzing atmosphere and buying of daily groceries in Cebu, Philippines is still thriving, and arguably part of the Cebu culture, and since not everybody has refrigerators, it’s also a meeting place, transit stop-off point or somewhere to enjoy quick street food or BBQ snack, including Balut or to buy Lechon

Wet and Public Markets in Cebu, Philippines are not wildly visited by international since tourists seem to be intimidated or concerned about safety, unlike Thailand where public wet markets are very much a tourist attraction, most items are fresh at public wet Markets in Cebu, Philiipines seafood in particular, meat is fresh in principle, although all perishable items are not refrigerated or reliably chilled, one item we would recommend you aviod buying is raw eggs, since they have no sell by date at Public Markets in Cebu, Philippines and you cannot be certain of the quality or freshness.  You will not find fresh dairy products, most big Supermarkets or Warehouse Membership Shopping in Cebu, Philippines will stock imported cheese, milk, butter and fresh cream, although the prices are expensive, especially fresh dairy cream, you may find non essential food items expensive in Cebu, Philippines, including branded toiletries and branded sun cream
