The Cebu Tourist should not miss the opportunity to visit Cebu for the most celebrated annual event in Cebu, the Sinulog-Santo Niño Festival

The Sinulog festival is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the world with a very rich history, the main festival is held each year on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus, who used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu, it is essentially a dance ritual which remembers the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity

The festival features some the Cebu’s most colorful displays of pomp and pageantry: participants garbed in bright-colored costumes dance to the rhythm of drums, trumpets, and native gongs, the streets are usually lined with vendors and pedestrians all wanting to witness the street-dancing, smaller versions of the festival are also held in various parts of the Cebu provinces also to celebrate and honor Santo Niño

Sinulog Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, at the center of it all is the full-day procession, specifically the vivid costumes of the dancers who come from all over Cebu, the other main attraction is the street parties which take place the day before and the day of the main event

Your Sinulog experience won’t be complete if you’re not going to join the street parties near mango square and
General Maxilom Ave, in the well-known Baseline street party where 1000’s of party-goers randomly smear paints on each other, throw colored powders, and splash beers on anyone’s head, face and body
